RCMP, coroner probe death of inmate in New Brunswick prison

RENOUS, N.B. — An investigation has been launched into the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Atlantic Institution in Renous, N.B.

Michael Kenneth Wilmot died Sunday while in custody at the maximum-security prison.

The 24-year-old was serving a four-year, 11-month sentence for aggravated assault.

The RCMP and coroner have been called in to investigate the death, as is always the case when an inmate dies in custody.

Correctional Services Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
